Having joyously celebrated the Centennial of Lithuanian Independence, we are ready to get back to a regular schedule of classes.
We would like to alert you to future events:
Sunday, Feb. 25 the Los Angeles Lithuanian Community celebrates the Centennial with Mass at 11 am and a formal commemoration in the hall thereafter. All are invited . Please wear Scout or Ateitininku uniforms, or the national costume. We are celebrating !
March 10 – Lenten Confessions
March 31 – Easter vacation
April 7 – return to school
April 8 – Confirmation
School safety – due to the increased violence we see in our country , we will be implementing a safety plan for our students on Saturdays. A Parent Safety Committee is in the process of creating a working plan. Please see Linas Venckus if you are interested in joining the committee or have expertise in this area.
Reminder: students are not to use cell phones during the school day. They are to be respectful of teachers and each other.

Next Saturday , Feb. 10th, we will celebrate the Centennial of Lithuanian Independence with a program prepared by the students at 12 p.m. in the upper hall. ALL STUDENTS ARE TO WEAR THE LITHUANIAN COSTUME. After all, we are celebrating Lithuania’s 100th birthday ! Please show your appreciation for the efforts of the teachers and students by coming to the program.
At last week’s faculty meeting, teachers said that these were the issues that cause the greatest concern: lateness to class; frequent absences from school; incomplete or carelessly done assignments; lack of effort in trying to speak Lithuanian. Please be attentive to these issues ,and help our teachers spend their time effectively.

Our school is open on Saturday, just as it has been in the past on this January weekend. We will be commemorating the events of January 13th, when in 1991 Lithuanians filled the streets with song, prayer , and demands for independence from the USSR. Join Lithuanians worldwide in lighting a candle to remember those who died , as well as all who fought for freedom.
Students are asked to participate in an art contest LIETUVA MANO ŠIRDYJE / LITHUANIA IS IN MY HEART. They are welcome to interpret these words artistically using any medium they wish (pencil, crayons, watercolors,chalk, etc.). Return the finished artwork to the classroom teacher this Saturday. Students’ work will be displayed during the Vasario-16 program.
Join us for a student/parent simposium about VALUES IN MY LIFE and a lecture about the Lithuanian language by visiting professor Joana Pribušauskaitė from Vilnius U. on Saturday, Jan. 20th after the flag-raising ceremonies. Please support the efforts of teachers and administration.

Happy New Year. We begin the year-long celebration of the Centennial of Lithuania’s Independence 1918-2018. Please participate in all community and school events to mark this occasion.
The students will be participating in art and essay contests related to the Centennial. Guidelines will be forthcoming. Essays can be written in English.
The West Coast Teachers’ Conference will take place at our school on Jan.20-21. All parents are invited to the Saturday lecture about the changes in the Lithuanian language, presented by Joana Pribusauskaite, professor of Vilnius U. and textbook author . Please come to the upper hall immediately following flag-raising ceremonies. Students and parents will also conduct a simposium on the topic, “Values in My Life Today; Personal Attributes Necessary for the Future.”
Vasario 16-ta, Lithuanian Independence Day, will be celebrated in our school on Feb. 10th at 12 pm in the hall. Please support your students and teachers in all their efforts.

Dear Lithuanian School families,
Wishing all of you a healthy, joyful, kind, and blessed New Year 2018. This year Lithuanians throughout the world are celebrating the Centennial of Lithuanian Independence 1918-2018.
Let us mark this occasion by learning more about Lithuania’s history and present day challenges. Strive to speak Lithuanian at home. Collect new words, read books, magazines, gather information online. On the school grounds try to speak Lithuanian with others. They will listen and try to help you improve.
Dedication to the Lithuanian language and culture unites us. Let’s keep striving to keep our heritage alive.

Wishing all the Lithuanian School families a joyous Christmas. What can bring more happiness to a family than the birth of a child! We, as members of the Christian family, welcome the birth of the Christ Child. May He bring peace and joy to all of you. Please remember those whose hearts are burdened with worries and cares. Let us help each other whenever we can.
Thank you to all the organizers and participants of the Eglute program. Many of you liked having the program in church, saying that it created a joyful Christmas atmosphere. Thanks to Viktoras Ralys, Rima Velickiene, and all the parents who helped with preparations and refreshments.

School begins at the usual time. Please be on time,since students will be rehearsing early in the morning.
The Christmas program begins at 12 noon in the church. Doors will open at 11:45 ,once all of the students have been situated. The church has a capacity of over 300, so we should all fit. Please sit snugly. Strollers should be left outdoors.
You have been notified which food to bring for the refreshments after the program.
Santa will be visiting, so there will be lots of excitement. After the program, parents are responsible for their children.
Reminder: All students should be appropriately dressed for the Christmas program – skirts or dresses for girls; long pants and collared shirts for boys.
At this time I would like to wish all of you a blessed Christmas . May the newborn Child bring wonder and happiness to your homes and hearts.

Thank you to all for your birthday wishes last week. You are the best gift.
EGLUTES Christmas program’s dress rehearsal will take place this Saturday after school 1:15-2:30. Attendance is mandatory for all classes (excluding Kiskiai).Please support the teachers and school leadership as they try to prepare your children for a meaningful Christmas program.
This year’s program will take place in the church Saturday, Dec. 16th at 12 p.m. Santa will visit in the courtyard area and refreshments will be served in the lower hall. Please participate in bringing a plate of snacks. See Linas Venckus for details.
On the day of the program, all students are to dress appropriately – girls in dresses or skirts, boys – in long pants and collared shirts. No TEES or JEANS.
Check with your child and his/her teacher to see that all class and homework has been completed. Vacation is a good time to catch up.
Fr. V. Grazulevicius is visiting from Kaunas. He will be conducting a parish retreat on Friday, Dec. 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, at 10 am in our church. Please come for a time of prayer and reflection.
